Meeting Rooms

Are you looking for suitable rooms for your initiative or organization? In the Haus des Engagements there are 7 meeting rooms and a large event room that you can rent. Below you will find photos and detailed information about each room as well as a room calendar that shows the availability of the rooms.

Times

On weekdays: from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. you can reserve all meeting and event rooms (depending on availability, see room calendar below). Room White and the event room can also be booked during the day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on request.

Weekends: all meeting and event rooms can be rented all day.

Costs

In principle, the rooms are free for the (regular) meetings of voluntary initiatives and non-profit associations (exception: if the event generates income). However, we are happy to receive donations: the House of Engagement is a self-managed center for volunteers and we rely on donations and the participation of everyone to be able to cover our costs.

For other organizations or if the event generates income, the prices for using the room for the respective room are listed below.

Infrastructure

The Haus desEngagements is divided into a part in the front building with offices and meeting rooms and a part in the back building with co-working space and meeting rooms. Parking spaces must be requested and reserved in advance. Otherwise parking is not possible.

In both parts of the building there is a kitchen with a stove, oven, dishwasher, coffee machine(s), microwave, refrigerator and dishes for around 30 people. These can be shared, but must be left clean. For food, you can buy organic juice, organic juice spritzers, sparkling water, coffee powder as well as fair trade chocolates and nuts. But you are also welcome to bring your own food.

The groups themselves are responsible for setting up and dismantling the seating and tables. The rooms must be left swept clean and the tables wiped down. You can download the checklist for room usage here (available in German only).

Barriers

The front part of the building (where the Turquoise Room, White Room, Ochre Room and the Event Room are located) is accessible via a wheelchair ramp (approx. 10% gradient) in the inner courtyard. The turning area in front of the door is 140cm wide. From the ramp, the door can be pushed inwards to open it. The interior doors are all at least 80cm wide and have no thresholds. There is no guidance system for the blind. The signage is also currently still being worked on.

Inside there are two all-gender toilets and a wheelchair-accessible all-gender toilet with a sliding door. There is no changing table. The Turquoise Room is as wool- and gluten-free as possible.

The rear building (where the Green Room, Yellow Room, Orange Room and the Space are located) is unfortunately not accessible: there is a staircase at the entrance (6 steps) and a steep staircase (20 steps) to the 1st floor, without an elevator. There are separate toilets for men and women. Unfortunately, there are no facilities for changing diapers, but we have two boxes full of toys for children that can be used on site.

All rooms are relatively bright and designed to be low-stimulus. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises and alcoholic spirits are not permitted.

We are currently working on further improvements in terms of accessibility (signage, acoustics, etc.). If you have any questions about barriers, you can also contact us at the following address: vielfalt(at)haus-des-engagements(dot)de

Who meets in our rooms?

Bands

Rehearsal rooms for young bands are very rare in Freiburg. In the basement of the HdE we have created space for the five great bands: QULT, EMU, Lost & Found, Mudwaltz and Danjo. They share the room and some equipment, saving themselves the work of carrying and setting up for their rehearsals.

The room was built in a joint project in 2019 from straw and clay. This means: all materials used come from a radius of 20 km – from the Demeter farm on the Dorfbach in Eichstetten the stalks are a by-product of agriculture, so to speak, and are completely compostable when they are broken down – in contrast to foam, which is laboriously produced and ultimately has to be disposed of pressed straw has very good sound insulation values - perfect for a music rehearsal room

You can find more interesting information about straw bale construction here.
